Emily Kitts, MFT
Hi, I’m Emily, and I am passionate about helping you regain a sense of empowerment and hope that the circumstances in your life can change. I have helped individuals with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and life transitions.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in online marketing as a marketer and project manager for Gap, Inc. for a number of years. I also briefly worked in a few start-ups in the city so I have a solid understanding of what it’s like to be a twenty- and thirty-something attempting to thrive and live successfully in this incredible city.
style + philosophy
I specialize in working with clients with anxiety and working with clients going through life transitions. I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is the strongest evidence-based practice to effectively manage anxiety. My work with you may include ways to address stress, anxiety, and depression through alternative or natural remedies to medication, including exercise, yoga, meditation and mindfulness. I also particularly like coaching and counseling people through life transitions because I have struggled with life transitions, particularly in the first few years after I graduated from college. I wish I had received more support and coaching during those tougher years.
I offer a warm and empathic approach, and I enjoy working collaboratively with clients. I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” for clients, and I use an integrated approach that will work specifically for you. I am genuine and accepting, and I try to bring humor into the room when it feels appropriate. I like to be able to establish enough of a therapeutic relationship that I can gently confront or challenge you when you feel stuck in order to help you to move forward.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Wright Institute in Berkeley. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#99763), and I have received additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness meditation, and nutritional psychology. I have years of experience working with adolescents, individuals, couples, and families.
My previous career experience includes working in marketing and project management for several large corporations, including Gap Inc., Levi’s, Pepsi, and Sprint. I also worked for a few startups, including TRX.

a little bit more about me
I grew up in Seattle so I am an outdoorsy and nature-loving person at heart. I moved to California over ten years ago so I could fulfill my joy of hiking – but in the sunshine! Now I don’t think I could ever leave the Bay Area! I’m an only child so spending time with my husband, family, and friends is incredibly important to me. Living a healthy lifestyle is at the top of my list, which includes engaging in running, yoga, and attempting to cook organically (I’m still learning!) I love reading, watching and dissecting movies, and going to see live music.contact me
