Holistic Nutrition Consultant + Eating Psychology Coach
After discovering that the root of my chronic digestive and immune system ailments, as well as my ongoing anxiety and depression, stemmed from a severe food intolerance, I became passionate about studying nutrition so that I could help others discover the root of their own health struggles – and overcome them! I believe that while nutrition is the foundation, overall health and happiness is incredibly holistic – the mind, body, heart and spirit are truly all connected. In order to truly heal, we need to find nourishment and balance in all areas of life.
style + philosophy
We are inundated every day with nutrition do’s and don’t, diets and supplements guaranteed to trim belly fat fast, and metabolism boosting tips and tricks that leave us right back where we started. We are taught that we have no willpower if we struggle with maintaining healthy eating habits. We struggle to be in control of our bodies and diets but instead feel like the food is controlling us. We are led to believe that our health problems are symptoms to be fixed or enemies to fight, rather than deeper messages that could help us grow.
I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach. I don’t offer a quick fix to changing your body or your relationship with food, because you don’t need to be fixed! Your struggles with your body and with food do not stem from a lack of willpower or control. They are here to lead you to deeper truths about yourself that we will explore together. Through a lighthearted, compassionate, and realistic approach, I want to help you discover what your own body has been trying to tell you all along.
I studied Holistic Nutrition at Bauman college in Berkeley. As my studies and my work with clients evolved, I came to realize on a deeper level that our relationship with food is a direct reflection of our relationship with ourselves and the world around us. The act of eating is intimately intertwined with our emotions, mindset, stress, spirituality, and past experiences, so in order to truly improve our diets and resolve health concerns, we must go beyond the food itself. I dove further into this concept by studying at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating.

what you really want to know
I am originally an east coast girl, went to college in Colorado, and then moved out to the beautiful Bay area in 2012. I love to be outdoors and active as much as possible, hiking in Marin or running through Golden Gate Park. I sang a cappella (think Pitch Perfect) in high school and college, but these days most of my singing takes place in the shower or at karaoke 🙂 My favorite thing to experiment with in the kitchen is gluten free baking!
what my clients say
“Working with Sara Groton has been eye-opening. Beyond providing great nutrition advice and delicious recipes, she also took the role of therapist at times, helping me realize the different ways my relationship with food and my body reflected other stresses in my life. She encouraged me to stop focusing on superficial reflections of my health, and get more in tune with how I feel in a holistic sense. While it’s still a work in progress, since working with her I’ve become more in tune with my body, better able to sense its cravings, and as a result haven’t the same “binge” or “cheat” days I had before — instead becoming more comfortable with treating myself to smaller indulgences throughout the week. As she says, it’s nourishment for the soul!”
“Sara Groton is an incredible person to work with! While she has a cheerful and positive attitude, she’s also realistic. If something felt too difficult to commit to, she was able to break it down into smaller tasks in order to accomplish the bigger goal. It shouldn’t be incredibly overwhelming if you are looking to make lifestyle changes, and I felt safe to say no if something wouldn’t work for me. I also love that while nutrition is the forefront, the conversation delves deeper into what, in my case, is causing me to eat a certain way. It’s great to work with someone that can take in a lot of information and be able to draw connections. Were worked through how my daily stresses were putting significant strains on my body. I would highly recommend Sara Groton to anyone looking to make a change!”
“Working with Sara Groton has been a life changing experience that I am so grateful for! I’ve suffered from allergies for 10 years and took Zyrtec daily to deal with them. Together we designed an elimination diet to help identify possible allergens while weaning off Zyrtec (with additional guidance from my doctor on how to best stop taking Zyrtec). We also spent a lot of time discussing the emotional, mental and lifestyle factors that could be contributing to my reactions, which I found to be very valuable and an important part of my experience. I am thrilled to say that with Sara Groton’s help I am officially off Zyrtec and have a much better understanding of how my body reacts to different types of food. Sara was amazing to work with – always knowledgeable and incredibly supportive. I highly recommend working with her, whether it’s to just to learn more about nutrition and eating for health, or to go through a full elimination diet like I did.”
“Sara Groton took a personalized and motivating approach to my nutrition through a highly individualized plan that suited my goals and lifestyle. Through the plan we developed together, I made a few small changes that were easy to integrate into my daily routine that delivered surprisingly fast results. The plan was flexible enough so that I didn’t have to feel guilty if I did have that extra coffee, and instead I could make up for it in other ways. Thanks to Sara’s guidance, I now have a better understanding as to how food affects me, and I’ve been able to form some healthy habits that are contributing to my ability to maintain healthy weight, clearer skin, and higher energy levels! I recommend Sara without hesitation.”
