WHO I WORK WITH

While I can help all kinds of clients,  I particularly enjoy working with people who are struggling in their relationship with food, who want to spend less bandwidth figuring out what to eat, and who are craving equal treatment in medicine. There is so much conflicting information when it comes to nutrition, it can be stressful trying to figure out what will really be best for our bodies and minds.  I work with people who are trying to improve their physical, mental, and emotional health and those who have specific concerns about the status of their gut health, hormones, and nervous system.  Since our gut health is so integral to our overall health, this is generally the place I start!

I use the hallmarks of intuitive eating to reduce the amount of shame and stress that can be caused around what we are deciding to put into our bodies. This tool will help increase attunement to your body so you can really listen to what it needs. My goal is to reduce the amount of outside “food rules” my clients have and to teach clients to honor their hunger and satiety. Everyone I work with gets individualized protocols that consider your schedule, lifestyle, and preferences as well as my complete respect in a judgment-free environment.  If you need help balancing hormones, blood sugar, fighting fatigue or brain fog, or healing your gut, I can help get you there. Together we will work to make realistic and sustainable changes that optimize your health and cater to your unique biology.

MY APPROACH

I use an integrative and functional approach to my practice in order to create evidence-based and completely personalized nutrition programs. The functional approach allows us to get to the root cause of disease where we can address the underlying factors and not just put a bandaid over the symptoms. Digging in and doing the nutritional detective work is my favorite part of the job. Making connections between symptoms and which specific biochemical pathways is endlessly fascinating to me. I am trained in reading both conventional and functional labs and these are great tools to really find out what’s really going on “under the hood.” A combination of thorough assessment, conventional and functional lab work, addressing sleep and stress, your support group, environmental toxins, and other lifestyle factors, we will try to identify the root of what is causing problems for you so that it can be addressed.

Our health care is typically fractured into systems (cardiovascular system, nervous system) and is also treated this way, often with very little communication between practitioners. My perspective looks at your whole person, where all of these systems are connected and directly affect each other. I am always considering this as I make my recommendations. I will never look at you as just a body that needs to be “fixed.” You are a whole person with thoughts, preferences, and opinions and I make sure to consider your wants when we are working together. I give all of my clients my complete respect and work hard to foster a safe space where they can express their health concerns freely.

MY BACKGROUND

I have always been captivated by both food and science so when I was figuring out the best career for myself going back to school to pursue my master’s degree in nutrition made perfect sense!  I am a forever-student so I am perpetually seeking further education in various sciences, mainly human biochemistry.  I also have a background as a personal chef so I absolutely love talking about food with my clients and figuring out which recipes they might like best!

I got my degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport and I completed my supervision with The Clinician’s Incubator which provides incredible continuing education.  This is where I received training in disordered eating and how to use Intuitive Eating to help clients with their relationship with food. I am a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) which allows me to use medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to find the source of symptoms and counsel clients on interventions.

WHY I LOVE THIS WORK

My ultimate goal is to empower you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to take your health back into your own hands. It’s an honor to be entrusted with this responsibility and I work really hard to make sure I’m getting my clients the best care possible.  To be able to positively impact someone's health, improve their relationship to food, or increase body positivity is incredibly rewarding and I take pride in all of the work that I have done thus far.

A BIT MORE ABOUT ME...

When I am not working with clients on their health, I am probably cooking or baking, making art, hiking, or snuggling with my kitties Indie and Juno!  During the pandemic I got really into carving stamps so I am often designing and carving stamps out of rubber or linoleum. I then make prints and cards and even have a little Etsy shop where I sell my cards!  I am also a huge podcast nerd and am almost always listening to something when I’m not working.  Maintenance Phase and Food Psych are two of my favorite food-centered podcasts that I encourage all of my clients to listen to!

WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY

“Madison is such a great partner in my health. I thought I had to succumb to a life with painful IBS systems and spontaneous evenings in the bathroom and Madison taught me that there is a way out. I really appreciate the way she listens to my goals and tailors her guidance to what I really need.  She does a great job at helping me reflect in more detail about my health and behaviors and how so many different factors in my life along with my specific lab and hormone results, all play a role in how I feel. I love how she breaks down the science behind her recommendations and how the vitamins and nutrients support specific functions in my body. I have learned so much about my body with Madison. I loved the tests we did and her deep analysis of my labs, hormones and stool, gave me an incredible view into how my body was working and what might be driving some of my symptoms. She has taught me to listen to my body and think more about serving its needs rather than focusing on constraints or rules. I have so much more respect for food as medicine and thinking more holistically and thoughtfully. She tailors my plan to what is actually realistic for me and I really appreciate her personalized, science-backed approach. It’s nice to feel like I have a deeper understanding of my body and I’m back in control of how I feel.” -MW

“Madison is not only a nutritionist, but the embodiment of a true holistic practitioner. She takes care in focusing on all realms of health and understands all of the variables that go into making us happy, healthy humans. What I appreciate most about working with Madison, is her ability to adapt to levels of change that are appropriate and achievable for me. I always feel in control of the adjustments we are making, and know I will always have her support!” -CD

“Madison is wonderful to work with. She is professional and makes you feel comfortable talking about your body and what you want to improve. Madison gave realistic advice and she is incredibly knowledgeable. With her holistic approach, all aspects of you are covered and you learn to help yourself heal in a multifaceted way to feel your best! I highly recommend Madison.” -TB
